Eight Days into the 8Safe Elimination Diet

It’s been over an entire week now since I’ve started the 8Safe Elimination Diet. Eight days in and I’m feeling somewhat better.

I had attempted it last spring but gave up after 1-2 weeks in due to personal distress and a death. An elimination diet that eliminates the top 8 food allergens is no joke and without a clear mind, I couldn’t keep going.

Why an Elimination Diet?

I have now taken this on again to find answers to my eczema that has flared up wildly again this winter. Usually, it is well hidden under my clothing on my arms, but this season it has proven to manifest itself right where the sun shines daily: my face.

You’ve not done anything difficult until you cannot eat a thing with eggs, dairy, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, or gluten.

Even the worker at Wegmans, my new favorite every-allergen-is-labeled place to shop, said “elimination diets are so tough but so worth the information you learn, good luck!” as he put back the vegan cashew cheese he was recommending.

I am Going to Quit Running

At exactly 5 am every day little feet pitter patter down the hallway, yells and laughs bellow out of Crab’s room, the shower faucet springs to action, and light seeps into our bedroom; so there is truly no sleeping through it all.

Luckily, on the weekends, there is no alarm and Chris does not jump into the shower at 5 am, so the kids sleep until the late hour of 6 am if we keep quiet enough. The moment Monkey hears a noise, he’s up and downstairs turning on lights and ready to start his day.

Five years I keep thinking… five years and they’ll want to sleep in on the weekends.

The past two weeks have gone rather well when it comes to getting up at 5 am and getting in my workouts, I didn’t have much choice. Let’s take a look at how the last week shook out for my training:

No, You Weren’t Cut from Our Christmas Card List

We never got around to sending out Christmas cards this year. Truth.

I didn’t even stage a photo op for the kiddos regarding a Christmas photo. Gasp.

It just wasn’t on my priority list, and well, Chris also didn’t push to get it done, either.

Being a mom can be quite exhausting without keeping up with expectations like holiday cards or themed birthday parties. Having two boys between 1-5 years old is more than my usual cup of tea, and I find myself wiped out more than I’d like to admit.

December 2016 Frugal Momster Expense Report

The end of the year was quite a doozy for us! We went on a bit of a shopping spree for household items and various projects in addition to the holiday shopping and gift giving season. You’ll want to sit down for this one.

Chimney Sweep, Fireback & Vertical Rack

Our new beautiful fire was burning hot.

The first of our major costs was scheduling to get our chimney cleaned and inspected.

Also, we decided to purchase a reflective fireback and a vertical fire grate since we had some difficulty with smoking in our fireplace. These two combined cost well over $1,000 when all was said and done.

The fire grate that was in the fireplace when we bought our house was rather large and came out a bit too far in the front of the fireplace. Couple that with two amateur fire starters and there might be a small issue… Since we started using the new, and rather expensive, new chimney fireback and rack we’ve had several astonishing fires that burn hot and smoke-free.

7 Days of Crochet: Duckling Hat

I didn’t get a chance to take an “official” photo of the duckling hat I made for my brand new nephew. I gave it to my sister-in-law at the beginning of November for her sprinkle. I had to work it up quick to get it ready in time!

It turned out a little big, but her kiddos always grow super fast. So, I hope he’ll get to wear it this winter, if not he should definitely fit into it by next fall and winter.
