March 2017 Frugal Momster Expense Report Plus Teaching Monkey About Shopping

Luckily, Monkey is interested in learning more about personal finance, mainly the shopping part. We took ourselves to the food store mid-week one week to pick up items to make his favorite soup, Mac n’ Cheese Soup from the One Pot Chef. He wrote the list himself, go Monkey!

Gluten-Free Buttermilk Biscuits

I have taken to a certain gluten-free flour blend that seems to mimic white flour very well. With it, I’ve made a variety of muffins, chocolate chip cookies, biscuits, and pizza dough. It’s far less expensive than the specific kits by Bob’s Red Mill, but those were what I started with to learn how to best bake gluten-free.

I stumbled across Jeanne’s book, Gluten-Free Wishlist, in my local library. I love how she has worked hard to replicate gluten-free baking without adding in nut flours or bean flours that can change the taste dramatically. Continue reading…

Gluten Free Bread #Fail

Today is officially Monkey’s 5th birthday. I cannot believe where I was 5 years ago and what was going through my mind overnight and into the wee hours of the morning. I am still amazed at how quickly, yet slowly, this time has gone. He’s grown into an amazingly hilarious little man who’ll always be my baby guy.

Monkey has found my new gluten-free status to be interesting. We talk often about it. We discuss what might or might not have gluten in it, and he jabs at me with jokes on the regular about what I can and cannot eat. “Mommy, you can have this chocolate piece here, but not this cupcake, okay?”
