Weekend DIY: Modernizing our Dining Room with Chair Rails

Just a quick note about the Kombucha scoby I ordered online: After a few short days and following all of the instructions (it didn’t look like it was doing well) it grew mold. Yep, the entire batch in the trash. Luckily, my colleague’s husband has a scoby to give me in the next few days and I feel more confident his will be a healthy scoby than the one online. I removed the links to the one I bought, just so no one else ends up with the same sad story!

Since we’ve moved in three and a half years ago, many projects have jumped ahead of this one. We have wanted to update our dining room for some time now, but really it wasn’t a “need” it was more of a want. So, we wrote down all the measurements last summer, came up with a plan, and then put it away after deciding not to spend the $500 to remake the area. Continue reading…

Weekend DIY: Installing a New Stair Rail

When we have winter weekends with no plans, we tend to look to get some home projects done we’ve been talking about for awhile.

Our house is our “maker space”, where we love to experiment and continually remake it as we enjoy living there. Renting sounds sometimes appealing when I read others who reach financial freedom that way, but I could not imagine what we’d do with our time if we didn’t have space literally to “play” in and renovate! Plus, I know in the next few years it’ll be mostly complete and look amazing, just like the old house we enjoyed renewing over eight years. Continue reading…

January 2018 Mortgage Pay-Off Update

Surprise! Happy New Year. January got off to a great start paying down our mortgage. It was the highest month of prepayments thus far. Don’t get too excited just yet, I will be shifting gears ever so slightly in the coming months to reach a few other financial goals before hammering harder at this wall of debt in front of us.
