I’ve been overweight for quite some time now, almost two years since I gave birth to Crab. Since his birth in August 2015, I’ve dropped 40lbs, but I had hoped to be closer to my normal last summer. Alas, I’ve missed the boat on reaching that goal, nor the one during the winter, or spring, but I still have plans to get back to normal within the 2017 calendar year.
I remember it fondly. I used to go out for runs in peace and quiet. Listen to podcasts and feel accomplished. Then something changed. I followed the elimination diet, I felt so much better, and I no longer felt motivated to run to feel better. I already felt better without all the hard work of running. Though, the elimination diet was a different kind of hard work.
It’s been over an entire week now since I’ve started the 8Safe Elimination Diet. Eight days in and I’m feeling somewhat better.
I had attempted it last spring but gave up after 1-2 weeks in due to personal distress and a death. An elimination diet that eliminates the top 8 food allergens is no joke and without a clear mind, I couldn’t keep going.
Why an Elimination Diet?
I have now taken this on again to find answers to my eczema that has flared up wildly again this winter. Usually, it is well hidden under my clothing on my arms, but this season it has proven to manifest itself right where the sun shines daily: my face.
You’ve not done anything difficult until you cannot eat a thing with eggs, dairy, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, or gluten.
Even the worker at Wegmans, my new favorite every-allergen-is-labeled place to shop, said “elimination diets are so tough but so worth the information you learn, good luck!” as he put back the vegan cashew cheese he was recommending.
At exactly 5 am every day little feet pitter patter down the hallway, yells and laughs bellow out of Crab’s room, the shower faucet springs to action, and light seeps into our bedroom; so there is truly no sleeping through it all.
Luckily, on the weekends, there is no alarm and Chris does not jump into the shower at 5 am, so the kids sleep until the late hour of 6 am if we keep quiet enough. The moment Monkey hears a noise, he’s up and downstairs turning on lights and ready to start his day.
Five years I keep thinking… five years and they’ll want to sleep in on the weekends.
The past two weeks have gone rather well when it comes to getting up at 5 am and getting in my workouts, I didn’t have much choice. Let’s take a look at how the last week shook out for my training:
